NEWSLETTER – MARCH 2012
1. REHEARSALS
Saturday 3rd March at St Williams Church Hall Walderslade
All pupils from Primary Grade (not Thursday class) and above (all Saturday and Thursday classes) should attend this rehearsal which will take place from 10.00 –4.00pm. Details of individual times will be posted on the Notice board and Web site. Those pupils who are in both Acts of the Show will be required to stay for most of the rehearsal and therefore will need packed lunches. Those pupils who are in Act 1 only will be required until approx 12.30 pm. Saturday “First Steps” and Pre-Primary classes will be at normal times (9.00 – 10.00). Anyone who assists with these pupils or who is dancing in their scene should also be in attendance at 9.00am. This rehearsal will not be in costume, however if you wish to have photos taken on that day you must bring the appropriate costume for a photograph. Costumes for “First Steps” and Pre-Primary will be available at Rehearsals on that day. All pupils from the junior school (ie First Steps through to Grade 3) who are attending this rehearsal should arrange to have their photos taken on this day rather than Sunday as there will be limited time for photos for juniors on Sunday. Junior pupils from Thursday classes who are not attending the Saturday rehearsal and all senior school pupils should arrange to have their photos done on Sunday. There will be group photos taken of all classes so even if you do not wish to have an individual photo taken juniors should bring their costumes with them on Saturday.
Sunday 4th March at The Brook Theatre, Chatham – First Dress Rehearsal
Please see attached schedule for rehearsal times on Sunday. We will not have chaperones at this performance and therefore all children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult. Although at performances we take every measure to ensure the safety of your child, we cannot undertake this responsibility at this rehearsal. All pupils must wear the approved Bluebell School Uniform (see details under performances). Please note that Logo items including our special addition “Wonderland” T shirt are currently on sale from Miss Sue or Andy. On stage, costumes are to be worn - this includes seamed ballet tights where appropriate, correct shoes, headresses etc. All pupils should wear hair in style as required for performances. Parents/pupils will be informed of this prior to the rehearsal
2. PERFORMANCES
Thursday 8th March – The Brook Theatre, -, Private Performance/Final Rehearsall 7.00 – 9.30pm
This will be run as a performance with an invited audience. Theatre doors will open at 6.30pm and all junior pupils should be signed into their appropriate dressing rooms from 6.30pm (Chaperones will not be available before this time). Any pupils who are only in the first Act may be collected from the dressing rooms at the Interval (8.15pm approx).
Chaperones
Anyone who has volunteered to be a chaperone should report to Carol Ashman in the main
dressing room each evening. Please speak to Miss Sue if you have any queries relating to
chaperone duties. If for any reason you are now unable to do chaperone duties please let me
know this week
Friday 9th March – Sunday 11th March – Performances at The Brook Theatre
Performances commence at 7.00pm on Friday and Saturday and 3.00 pm on Sunday and
junior pupils should arrive from 6.30pm onwards on Friday and Saturday and 2.30 on Sunday
Junior pupils must be signed in to their appropriate dressing room. Please ensure that all children have hair in correct style and have make-up before they arrive. You will be given a demonstration of make-up and hair at the earlier rehearsals. Pupils should not wear costumes until they reach the Theatre. All performers (including Seniors and principals) should wear (for rehearsals and performances) a School logo T or sweat shirt, Fleece, or a School logo dressing gown or a pink or white cross-over cardigan and black jazz pants or black trousers. All items must be named. There are several groups of children taking part in activities at the theatre and wearing our school uniform will enable the staff to easily identify which organisation the children belong to. Pupils should not arrange to meet friends in the bar during the interval and performers who are dancing after the interval will not be allowed to come into the bar area until after the show. This area becomes very crowded with members of the public and there is not enough room for the cast as well.
3. PHOTOS
Once again John Hall, who is a professional photographer, will be available for photos at the Saturday and Sunday rehearsals. If you wish to have multiple or family shots then please discuss with him direct. Will all dancers please ensure that they have their hair done appropriately and that full costume including correct tights and shoes and headresses are worn. Payment must be in cash and should be paid directly to John Hall. Can parents/teachers ensure that all groups of dancers go to John for a group photograph for that particular dance. Pupils should not ask to have individual photos of themselves or with their friends if they do not intend to buy the photo as this is both time wasting and expensive for the photographer.
4 DVDs
All performances will be recorded and DVDs. may be ordered prior to a performance, at the performance or in the week following. Order forms will be handed to pupils on 3rd and 4th March. I must emphasise that cameras and video recorders will not be allowed in the Theatre during performances, although you may take photos/videos at the Sunday dress rehearsal (assuming there are no objections from other parents). No photos or videos should be published on the Internet unless they are of you or your child only
5 COSTUMES/MAKE-UP/VALUABLES
Costumes must be taken care of and brought to rehearsals in a suitable carrier which should be named. Costumes should be returned wherever possible between 12th and 17th March please do not return them after this date as Miss Sue will not be there to collect them. If it is not possible to return costumes at this time then they must be returned by the second week of term at the latest. If costumes are not returned at all or are damaged, parents will be charged the full price of costumes and in many cases this could amount to over £100.00. Extra charges for late returns may be made as non return of costumes is extremely inconvenient since sets of costumes cannot be stored until all items have been returned and we also often need to use these costumes throughout the year for festival work.
All pupils will need to wear make-up for both the dress rehearsal and the performances. Please discuss with your teacher, Miss Sue or Miss Trudi what make-up is appropriate. Pupils should not bring or wear valuables to the theatre. Dressing rooms may be left empty and we have had instances of theft in past shows by members of the public. Only bring mobile phones/money if absolutely necessary.
6. CLASSES FOR WEEK COMMENCING 5th MARCH
Generally there will be no normal classes during the week of the show. If there are problems at the Sunday rehearsal then individual groups may be called for rehearsal on Monday or Wednesday but you will be informed of this before you leave the rehearsal. We will however be returning to classes on Monday 12th March. Term will finish on Thursday 29th March and classes will recommence on Saturday 21st April.
Finally, I would like to thank parents and pupils for their attention to the above matters and for their patience and understanding during rehearsals. I am positive that this will be a wonderful show and I hope that everyone will enjoy this opportunity to be associated with it.
Many thanks
Sue Burnham-Jones
