22nd October (School Successes)

The Summer School which took place in August was attended by 21 pupils who performed a Show case of their work on the last day.  This was very well received by all who attended and a collection was made on the door raising £70.00 for Demelza House.  Many thanks to all who were involved in making it such a success.

Once again a group of our senior dancers spent 9 weeks during the Summer performing in The Big Laughter Show - a professional production at The Theatre Royal Margate. They have all been complimented on their professionalism and have been invited to perform in further productions.

Holly and Joni Gibson, Joanne Porter, Erin Young and Aimee Baker took part in the Ramsgate Stage Festival and all five returned home with medals.

Carolyn White was awarded the Dancing Times scholarship for outstanding work during her one week Summer School with Kent Youth Ballet. Carolyn together with Stephanie and Amanda White and Holly and Joni Gibson have all been selected to appear in the forthcoming Kent Youth Ballet performances at the Assembly Halls Tunbridge Wells

Olivia Gammon, Emily Wolfe and Jasmine Sparks successfully auditioned for dance roles in the professional pantomime "Peter Pan" at the Central Theatre this Christmas.

12th June (Summer School)

We are proposing to organise a Summer School at St William's Church Hall from 20th - 24th August 2001.  This would take the form of open classes each day from 10.00 am until 3.30/4.00 pm in modern, contemporary jazz, ballet, tap, singing and drama plus other associated subjects.  Miss Natalie Gilmour
would be organising and directing the week and will be bringing in outside teachers for classes.  The week would culminate in a performance involving all pupils, on the Friday afternoon/evening which parents and friends may attend.

The cost would be between £40.00 and £50.00 for the week although we may be able to accept some requests for individual days tuition.  Age range would be from approximately 7 years and upwards  although requests for younger pupils would be considered.  Pupils would need to bring a packed lunch although drinks etc will be available during the day.

If anyone is interested in attending the Summer School please either speak to Sue or Natalie - no-one is obligated , we just need to get some idea of the response before we go ahead and make bookings.  Once details are confirmed we will be asking for a deposit of £10.00 to secure places.

14th March (Message from Karen Russell)

Good luck for the forthcoming performance of La Bayadere. I wish I could be there to see it but I know my mum and Hayley are coming to see you all perform and I guess I will get to hear all about it from them. I hope it all goes well and you enjoy yourselves. It's great that this year the ballet is new to the repertoire. It's good to break away from the old classics that we have performed over and over again!! What will be next?? Romeo and Juliet? Giselle? Manon?! Let me know.
Life in Australia is still good. The weather has been excellent but it is now slowly turning to Autumn so it has got a bit cooler - 25 degrees instead of 30!!!! Joe is getting bigger by the day. He can say lots of words and can climb anywhere and everywhere!! He is a typical boy but is still gorgeous and handsome. I haven't enrolled him into dance classes yet but we do boogie round the front room together from time to time.
We hope to pop back to Kent later this year so I will make sure I come in to see you all. Have fun with the show and do your best for Sue and Trudi and Natalie. I know they will have all worked extremely hard to put this together so give them a performance to be proud of. I will be thinking of you.
Love, Karen xxxxx

8th November (Message from Gemma Russell)

I have just been looking at the website, its amazing! I loved looking at all the pictures of past shows, it bring back many memories! I just thought I would let you know how im getting on up in in Leeds. Well, luckily we havent been flooded out yet, but its freezing up north! Im getting on really well, my course (Maths Studies... yeah I know, its maths!) is pretty bearable so far, nothing too bad has gone wrong! Ive made good friends with my flatmates, but they all take the mick out of me because apparently I have an 'accent'!! I dont think so, they are the ones with the dodgy northern accents!
Ive joined a Ballet class and doing aerobics too so im trying to keep fit, the ballet is different to the style we do so its pretty strange but i'll get used to it. And so far I havent managed to give myself food poisoning with my homebaked meals (ive never actually cooked before in my life!).
Well Lara, Sarah and my darling Dannii, I hope you are doing us proud being the only seniors there now, Im missing our chats and fun on a saturday morning! (I tend to lay in till about 12 on a sat!). I will definitely come down the saturday im back, like Stacy, i dont finish till the 15th December so Ill see you all then, I hope the rehearsing for La Bayadere is going well, I cant wait to see it!
Lots of love,

Gemma xxxxxxxxxxxxx

25th July 2000

Around The World in 80 Minutes has been and gone now.

It actually lasted slightly longer than 80 minutes, but a great show was put on by everyone. All the children performed their dances beautifully, and last weeks competition winners got the chance to show their dances to the whole school, and the two audiences.

The charity was anounced as Arthtritis Research, and its patron Dave Prouse (of Darth Vader fame) was at the performance to award the competition winners their certificates.

Final figures have not yet been calculated but it looks as though the show raised about £1000, which will help to produce La Bayadare next year.
